Poor Anna FPP is not for everyone. Watching Kimberley may be easier for you than following written instructions. When you start, make sure you have an hour or so as you need to get into a groove. Fold all the lines on the paper before starting. Wrong sides together - back of the fabrics to the back of paper. Lower your stitch length. If you are doing multiple blocks, maybe do all the 1s, then 2s then 3s etc. Australians are big on acronyms. I wish I could remember the one my teacher said. Can't member the first one for putting fabric on paper, but then it's S = sew, then T= trim. This makes 20 steps actually 3. Have fun ❤

Anna dear, just breathe, in and out. That’s a girl🎉. Now pick up that gorgeous stack of fabrics and get to paper piecing. I’ve made several and love it. Do watch Kimberly Jolly’s tutorial and dig in. You may need to watch the tutorial a couple of times, but I really think you will enjoy it. Good luck and keep us posted. Hugs to G. ❤❤

If we lived closer I’d help you with foundation paper piecing. Mu preferred method is with freezer paper (Barbara Black has a good video on it on RUclips), but Kimberly will guide you along. You kind of have to think backwards and in reverse, but don’t be afraid, you can do it!!

Just a hint about paper piecing….make a couple of copies of the paper piece pattern and practice with scraps so you can see how it works without ruining a real pattern piece. Good luck.

I love the story about the cabin. I have a quilt I am doing the same think(procrastinating), because I am scared I will mess it up, but pulled on big kid breaches and I am gonna do a test block with scrap material to double check that I am doing it correctly. We can do this. Thank you for all your encouragement and enabling, we love it and you.

It tickled the brain for a bit but once you got it, I think could be very addictive. Your very talented, I think it will be a breeze for you! Good luck 😃

Hi Anna! I love foundation paper piecing. That one is involved. Check Fat quarter shop. I think she did a video on this one. So much better than trying to read. I’m a visual learner so the videos are a life saver. You will do it in 4 sections and then sew them together. I’ve ordered the papers and they haven’t come yet. I was like you. Ran from it initially. Discovered RUclips and haven’t looked back. ❤. You’ve got this!

I have done a couple foundation paper piecing projects. They sort of make my brain go inside-out. Yesterday, Riley Blake put out this youtube: ruclips.net/video/H-AukQic5E4/видео.html I did buy some of the FQ foundation papers for the quilt you want to do (looks great to me), and I think I might try it with this newer method. I might stay more sane. Will let you know! Have a great time!

I've watched gals just whip through a block. It looked so easy, then there was me 😅 My brain just couldn't get it. It's been a long while since I tried paper piecing but I will figure it out! I hope you and i both get over the intimidation of a pattern and feel the accomplishment when we finish a block. Another fun - fun video 🙂 Take Care 🧵🪡

I have a yarn bowl for my knitting and love it…I want a thread bowl how cute! Only thing I can say about EPP is I’m directionally challenged and so if you have a 3” piece to cover it takes 3 yards of fabric 😂. I love doing EPP but it takes me twice as much fabric and twice as much time. 🤷🏻‍♀️ So take your time and enjoy. Thank you for the visit ❤

Anna, the best hack for FPP I learned from Sarah Thomas (moda designer) in a class at my LQS. Take an extra copy of your page and cut it into the individual pieces to make templates. Lay a piece at a time on the fabric, add 1/4”+ and you will ALWAYS have the right size. Do this before you even start - you can call it “prep” like you do for your stitching projects. I also had a rough start with FPP years ago, but now I love it!

Although I enjoy quilting, for past several years I need to have a hand embroidery project in progress especially anything by Kathy Schmitz! I’m just finishing her 2018 pattern for Scented Christmas Bowlies! The pattern has 8 designs with cute Christmas designs embroidered, then hand quilted and then little pillows which I filled with natural crushed dried balsam fir! Right now I’m hand stitching the sweet little “bowlies” and cannot wait to start my next Kathy Schmitz project- “Frosty & Friends”using Moda Snowbound charm pack so each individual snowman (30 in all) has their own winter jacket or scarf. Enjoy your stitch retreat!

Anna, I started foundation paper piecing through my quilt group. In the beginning, it can be a bit confusing. Shabby Fabrics has a great foundation paper piecing series. After watching it, I became for confident and enjoy it much more. Hopefully, some of those women watch your channel. Or maybe someone knows them and you can connect again.

Hi Anna...........rather than the 20 steps.........I think that you need to watch someone doing it. It'll make a whole lot more sense to you and before you know it, it's going to be mindless and come together perfectly. YES........there is PEACE in this technique, once it "clicks" and you won't be able to stop.

I did a queen size Storm at Sea quilt, using paper piecing, it made all my points and seams so easy to match. I used regular printer paper and even though I used a small stitch length removing the paper was a challenge at times. I loved the way it turned out.

Hi Anna, Love your youtubes. I learn so much, am enabled endlessly, and smile, laugh and get inspired - all at the same time!! I have done paper piecing and yes it does look daunting. But what I love is that your points, corners and squares turn out so perfect I barely recognize my sewing! Instructions can be a bit overwhelming, but I am a more visual than written word person so I go to you tube instructions. Look around and watch two or three instruction videos and you will get the jest of what the instructions are saying. Good luck with your paper piecing. p.s. Nobody can ever say that you are not brave and take on challenges (marathon running, playing piano in a concert, etc., etc.!!)

Foundation paper piecing is super easy and accurate. The only trick is making sure your fabric is larger than the area that needs to be covered. There are demos on uTube that show how to do this. Once you learn that, the rest is a breeze.

I love your little thread bowl (another investment I need to look into). I have a beautiful wooden bowl for my crochet yarn. Quilters have the most interesting stories and experiences! Paper piecing is a process that requires my concentration so no music, no audio book and no RUclips videos. (I don’t watch tv). My brain needs to get wrapped around the process before I start, It seem backwards to me and the seems inside out and backwards. Once I get started I’m good. It does use a lot of fabric. Get yourself an add a quarter ruler, I also use a very thick postcard for folding over fabric. Watch some RUclips videos, there are some good ones out there.

I enjoy every one of your videos, short or long especially when you share memories. I didn't know paper piecing was supposed to be hard and just dove in when I pieced the 1930's Farmwife Quilt about 10 years ago. The prep work doesn't have to be too precise because you trim to size after you stitch. As long as the piece of fabric is big enough to cover the section including 1/4 " seams, and you stitch in the order printed on the block it's hard to fail. Perfect corners and points every time! Don't be scared. Just watch a couple of videos. You're going to love it! Just a hint about paper - don't use good copier paper - the thinner the better. My favorite was phone book pages but newsprint would be about the same. I even picked up a pad of tracing paper at the dollar store and taped it to copier paper to run it through the printer since it was too thin to feed by itself. I haven't tried it, but tissue paper might work just as well and would be even easier to remove from the back of the block. I cant wait to hear in a future video what you learn from all of us giving you tips and how you feel about trying something new and scary.

On fpp, it would be good to go to a class. It is good for precise points and tricky designs, but it kind wastes fabric. It really does take a different mind set to do it. Be brave and give it a try. Some people love it. I can do it but for me it is better with scraps. Then the waste doesn't bother me as much. Tip: have extra fabric.
